On June 26, 2019, celestialdata was sponsored by Sullivan Law to host an evening of learning, Q&A, and networking on the convergence of Space, Big Data, and Healthcare.

Space-based, Big Data, Life Science analytics pioneer celestialdata hosted this event in the belief that participants would gain a better understanding of opportunities in these sectors and how they are converging rapidly, often through blockchain technologies.

Harumi Urata-Thompson moderated the panel of subject matter experts, which included among others, Lucas Fonseca, Chief Space Officer & Co-Founder of celestialdata, and Joel Telpner, Chair of Fintech and Blockchain at Sullivan Law.

Background on the Space Economy, Big Data Services, and Healthcare IT Services

Space-based businesses will generate around US$400 billion in revenues this year, and Morgan Stanley is forecasting revenues from this sector to exceed US$1.75 trillion by 2040.

Space-based businesses will generate around US$400 billion in revenues this year, and Morgan Stanley is forecasting revenues from this sector to exceed US$1.75 trillion by 2040.

Meanwhile, Big Data services will generate around US$50 billion in revenues this year, and Statista anticipates this increasing to more than US$100 billion by 2027.

Compared to Healthcare revenues of close to US$8.7 trillion this year according to Dreamit Ventures, revenues from Healthcare-based IT services will be around US$188 billion this year, and forecasted by MarketsandMarkets to exceed US$390 billion in 2024.

Yassine Benajiba – Chief Scientist, Symanto & Adjunct Assistant Professor, Columbia University

Yassine is Chief Scientist at Symanto. He is also an Adjunct Professor at Columbia University. Before joining Symanto, Yassine worked at Thomson Reuters and Philips Research North America as a research scientist.

Yassine holds a PhD in NLP from the Technical University of Valencia (UPV).

Lucas Fonseca, Chief Space Officer and Co-Founder, Celestialdata

Lucas is a space engineer and has previously founded two space based initiatives in Brazil: Garatéa promotes developing a space industry in Latin America through encouraging a public-private effort in the region to send a space probe to the moon, and Airvantis enables scientists to conduct research in microgravity. Previously, he was a space engineer for the German Aerospace Center (DLR) in Cologne, Germany, where he supported the Rosetta mission.

Lucas has a MSc in space systems engineering from ISAE-Supaero (France) and a BSc in mechatronic engineering from the University of Sao Paulo (Brazil).

Joel S. Telpner, Corporate and Finance Partner, Sullivan Law

Joel chairs the Fintech and Blockchain practice group of the international law firm, Sullivan & Worcester. He is a highly sought after strategist and counselor who was named as one of the Top 10 Fintech attorneys in America by Chambers and Partners in their Fintech 2019 edition, named one of the Top 6 Fintech leading lawyers in the United States by The Legal 500 in its U.S. 2019 edition, and named a “Trailblazer” in the National Law Journal’s inaugural Cryptocurrency, Blockchain and Fintech List.

Joel structured some of the first token sales and blockchain-based applications, including the first issuance of digital securities utilizing blockchain technology for Overstock.com, and helped Overstock’s tZero trading platform obtain the necessary regulatory approval to trade crypto securities.

Joel led a panel discussion about token sales and best practices in Davos during the World Economic Forum and co-founded a global trade association for stablecoins.

Joel has an MBA from University of Pennsylvania, Wharton School and a JD and BBA from the University of Iowa.

Harumi Urata-Thompson, CEO and Founder, HUT Consulting & CEO and Co-Founder, Celestialdata

Harumi specializes in leading and advising companies on taking innovative paths to achieve strategic, operational and marketing success. Currently, she is consulting to and serving on the board of directors of several companies. She also acts as mentor to a number of people and speaks at numerous events. Subjects include AI, Blockchain, Cryptocurrency, Cybersecurity, Outerspace, Cross-border Business, and Diversity and Inclusion. She is a Co-Founder of Celestialdata.

Prior to starting HUT Consulting, Harumi was the COO for the CFA Society New York (previously New York Society of Security Analysts), a nonprofit affiliate of the CFA Institute with 10,000 financial professionals. She spent 14 years at Thomson Reuters as a Director of Innovation and Chief of Staff to the CEO of Healthcare and Science. Harumi began her career in investment banking with Morgan Stanley and Citigroup in fixed income sales and M&A.

Harumi has an MBA from INSEAD and a BA, magna cum laude, in business from Sophia University in Japan.

Kelly H. Zou, PhD, PStat®, FASA – Vice President, Head of Medical Analytics and Insights, R&D and Medical, Upjohn Division, Pfizer

Kelly is an elected Fellow of the American Statistical Association and an Accredited Professional Statistician. Previously, she was Senior Director, Global Real World Evidence Center of Excellence and Senior Director, Statistical Center for Outcomes, Real World & Aggregate Data at Pfizer. She was Associate Professor at Harvard Medical School, as well as Director of Biostatistics at its affiliated teaching hospitals. She was Associate Director of Rates at Barclays Capital.

Kelly’s research interests include health policy, real world evidence, signal detection, and artificial intelligence, with over 140 professional articles and 4 books. She was featured as an Outstanding Woman in Data Analytics by Forbes, an Inspirational Women in Statistics & Data Science by Wiley and the Royal Statistical Society, and an Accomplished Woman in Statistics and Data Science by the ASA.

Kelly received both MA and PhD degrees in Statistics from the University of Rochester, following a BA in Mathematics (Summa Cum Laude), with a Minor in Physics. She completed her Postdoctoral Fellowship at Harvard.
